Vertical Research Areas

WG1 – Integrated Biosystems & Ecology

Focuses on ecological principles and interdisciplinary research connecting human, animal, and environmental systems, while promoting standardized scientific terminology.

WG2 – Molecular Identification & Genomics

Applies modern molecular tools such as sequencing, DNA barcoding, and mass spectrometry for standardized and reproducible analysis of vector-associated organisms.

WG3 – Geospatial Analysis & Modeling

Uses GIS, spatial statistics, and predictive modeling to analyze environmental and biological data, supporting large-scale ecosystem studies.

WG4 – Evolutionary & Population Analysis

Investigates evolutionary relationships, population dynamics, and geographic patterns using phylogenetic and computational approaches.

Horizontal Research Themes

  • Underexplored vector topics across Europe and neighboring regions
  • Tick-associated, flying insect, and flea-related organisms
  • Rare or emerging vector-associated organisms with limited current data

A dedicated cross-cutting team ensures integration of these topics across all WGs and shares validated knowledge across the network.

Research Methods & Collaboration

  • Annual Meetings & Workshops: Coordinate strategies and ensure interdisciplinary knowledge exchange.
  • Early-Career Researcher Mobility & Training: Short-term research exchanges and practical training schools strengthen skills and foster collaboration.
  • Publications & Knowledge Sharing: Scientific outputs include books, special journal issues, guidelines, and brochures.
  • Digital Platform: Central hub for research updates, training opportunities, publications, and community interaction.

Why It Matters

By combining interdisciplinary expertise, modern research tools, and collaborative platforms, this initiative strengthens scientific capacity, fosters innovation, and expands understanding of vector-associated organisms and their ecological interactions.
